The left-back played for both the England u-18s and u-21s before he was given a call-up to the senior team by Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson. Virtually all his managers in the England youth team setup predicted that Wayne Bridge will play for the senior team and that prediction came to pass when he was given an invitation to the senior team and the defender made his first full cap against the Netherlands on February 13, 2002. Wayne Bridge proved himself quickly as a reliable left-back and he went on to make two appearances at the 2002 FIFA World Cup tournament in Japan and South Korea. All his appearances at the World Cup in Korea and Japan came as a substitute.
Wayne Bridge also made the 23-man squad for England to the Euro 2004 tournament in Portugal, but he didn’t play at all throughout the tournament as Ashley Cole was the preferred choice at left-back. However, the rest of the 5 side team comprises of teammates from the time he used to play at Chelsea. It includes Frank Lampard, Marcel Desailly, Didier Drogba, and Petr Cech.
Wayne and Frankie Bridge confess that they would love to have more children when they opened up about their family life at a recent interview. Frankie, the Saturday star, aged 29 and the former footballer at 38 years of age, admitted that they think about it but is not always in sync with the idea. Wayne says that he is open to having another baby but it would not happen so soon. It is not easy and that is also what Frankie agrees. She is not open to the idea of motherhood and that is why she needs time to think about having another baby.
When you ask a footballer about his most memorable moment as a player, you would expect him to say something about winning a major title or scoring a cracking goal. However, Wayne Bridge seems to be the odd one out.
